Verizon Foundation gives almost $2.2M to 150 PA non-profits

This is pretty cool. Just read a press release about the Verizon Foundation, the company's philanthropic arm, giving almost $2.2 million to 150 non-profit groups in Pennsylvania last year (including the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, which gets help every time you recycle your old cell phones and batteries at Verizon Wireless stores.)

Sure, big corporations like Verizon give away tons of money to charities every year -- it's become so par-for-the-course I bet a lot of people don't even notice any more. But what struck me was this part:

"Verizon employees and retirees in Pennsylvania donated almost 40,000 hours and raised more than $1,135,000 for nonprofits."

Way to go, Verizon peeps! It's always nice to see regular folks making a difference like that.
