Above: Teddy hangs out with her "Mommy," Guru Alison, in The Lair where she was created.
Our Techno-Guru show hosts have created some pretty fantastic inventions for our 2.0 Families, from last season's Secret Bat Cave gaming room and "drive-in" home theater with car-shaped couch, to their recent FiOS-networked Memory Wall and the breathtaking Musical Playroom.
But what about all of us here in cyberspace who actually want to play around with these inventions ourselves? (As wonderful as the Zaharko family are, I doubt even they're kind enough to extend an open invitation to the world to come sit on their Car Couch.)
This is part of why the latest Techno-Guru creation takes their game, as Guru Lloyd would say, to the next level....
Twittering Teddy: Real-Time Talk, 2.0 Style
Twittering Teddy is an animatronic bear that was tweaked and reprogrammed to read her friends' updates on Twitter.com, the popular social networking site. (Click here to find out more about Twitter.)
For the next couple weeks, Twittering Teddy will be interacting with the world live, thanks to the folks at Ustream.tv, on her very own webcam page:
If you have a Twitter account, be sure to follow Twittering Teddy...she just might follow you back and read your updates out loud!
Take Teddy Home, Help Homeless Kids
After Twittering Teddy takes her final curtain call, she'll be auctioned off on eBay, with all the proceeds being donated to the Homeless Children's Education Fund. So not only might you be able to take home an original Techno-Guru creation -- normally available only to the families chosen to star in our tech-makeover show -- you'll also be helping an extremely worthy cause. And you'll be helping do a doubly-good deed, as Verizon will be matching the final auction price of Twittering Teddy with a cash donation, up to $1,000, to HCEF, too.
So fire up your Twitter account, check out Teddy's live updates, and go clear a space on your favorite toy shelf for what could be your new favorite collectible!

can you make this teddy ruxpin twitter bear by using the modern, 2008 produced teddy ruxpin, or does it ahve to be the vintage model bear?
thanks!

Hi Megan,
If you plan to follow our instructions, you can use any anamatronic bear as long as you are somehow able to re-wire the motor that controls the mouth and eyes.
Carefully read the instructions, and post any questions you have!
Good Luck!
