Plan includes FiOS TV in all 5 Boroughs

Apr 16, 2008

Verizon has filed an application and plan for FiOS TV deployment throughout New York City, with the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT). According to a news release, this historic plan marks the first time that TV service will be available from a single provider across the entire city -- every neighborhood in all five boroughs will be able to get FiOS TV.

Said Monica Azare, Verizon Senior VP for New York and Connecticutt:

"Our investment in the City is historic, which is reflected in the citywide nature of our plan. When our fiber deployment project is completed it will reach to each and every borough, neighborhood, boulevard, avenue and street, without regard to the demographics of a particular area.  More importantly, City residents will be able to take advantage of the power of fiber optics delivered straight to their doors."

It will take a while to lay all that fresh fiber-optic cable -- the plan is to have the network built throughout the entire city by mid-year 2014 -- but pending timely approval of the application, Verizon would start offering TV service to NYC residents later this year.
