Remember when cell phones were considered a luxury? Now I meet 6-year-old girls with cell phones because they have to stay in touch with their BFF. Although the growing popularity of cell phones has increased our demand to stay connected, it has also decreased our need for landlines. I read somewhere that currently around 18% of households are without landlines, while it was only 3% in 2003. At this rate, what will come of the white pages? I remember I used to count on the phone book to look up my crush's number, so I could prank call him with my girlfriends. Ok, so we didn't actually prank call, we just hung up after "hello."
The point is, the phone book only lists landlines. Will our children have landlines when they grow up? Will these clunky phone books end up in a museum some day? Actually, I look forward to the day when we stop producing phone books (that my mom uses as a step stool) and save a few million trees.

You know, I was just talking about this the other day...I can't remember the last time I actually used a phone book -- I've gotten so used to using the Internet to find everything. In my neighborhood, we actually get two sets of phone books, from two different companies. I've gotten to the point where I take them off my front doorstep and drop them right in the recycling bin, rather than try to wrestle a space for them in the cabinet.
They are pretty good for strong-man demonstrations though, as tearing one in half is pretty impressive. Maybe in the future they'll start using encyclopedias instead...oh wait, those will probably be extinct, too!
