At each episode's live makeover reveal, The Guitar Hero Face-Off against Brian...er, whatever his metalhead alter ego is that week, is always a fun highlight of the accompanying block party. But what if your button-mashing chops are just too feeble to broadcast to the whole neighborhood on a Jumbotron? Can you still wipe that smile off his faux-Teutonic face and shred your way to victory?

David Randolph, who used to make a living building interactive museum displays, has used one of his old tools of the trade -- a programmable show control system -- to create a guitar that never misses a note.
