Another blog post that made me chuckle today...this time by Marl of "archarios" (which is Greek for "beginner, learner, neophyte, novice," in case you were wondering.)
Marl was going to switch from DSL to FiOS Internet service, and so did a little research on Wikipedia.org, but wasn't all that impressed with the site's semi-comprehensible techno-babble. In the end, what did it was the simple, plain English from the FiOS rep.
Congrats, Marl. Sometimes the simplest answer really is the best one.

Thank you. I'd take this as a compliment. This proves that there is really such thing as "Sales Talk".

Yeah, you should take it as a compliment, Marl! I wish I could get FiOS where I live.
I know what you mean about Wikipedia -- sometimes it's great for getting a thumbnail sketch of knowledge on something, but a lot of the tech/scientific entries seem like they were written by and for PhDs -- way over my head.
I tried to put a lot of the tech talk of FiOS into plain English a few months ago in this blog entry -- let me know what you think!

I am glad I decided to make the switch!
Think about this why I couldn't resist the switch. Our Home Phone + DSL (take note...1.5Mbit/sec Downstream) is about $70.00/month. With the FIOS bundle, I am getting some extra services for the home phone + 15 Mbit/sec downstream for my internet...on the price of about $80.00...yes, additional of about $10.00.
1.5 Mbits/sec ---> 15 Mbits/sec (additional 13.5 MB/s + phone services for $10.00 ain't bad!)

Yeah, that ain't bad at all! I don't live in a FiOS area, so right now I'm paying about $145 a month for cable TV and Internet -- and that's without phone service! Granted, I do have a DVR and some movie packages, but still...
I've got download speeds of 7 Mbps max. I could up it to 10 for another 10 or 12 bucks a month, but I can't get any additional upload speed -- it tops out at 500 Kbps, I believe.
So enjoy it, my friend! Next time you download some huge file, dedicate a moment to all your brothers and sisters out there who wish they were in yer shoes. ;)
