My Home 2.0 leads to home purchase!

davies_sleep.jpgAuditions are fun...but exhausting!

As my Mom has always been fond of saying, "Sometimes when life closes a door on you, it opens a window."

This old maxim came to mind as our casting director Liza was telling me about the Davies family, who auditioned for an episode in the Pittsburgh area. The family didn't end up being cast in an episode, but they were one of the finalists and came very close. Of course it's always disappointing to almost get something, but instead of getting bummed out about it, the Davies family saw it as a blessing in disguise.

I asked Patty Davies if she'd be kind enough to let me post her email to Liza (copied below), and her response to me was fantastic as well.

Patty, you folks are living proof that just because a family doesn't ultimately get chosen to star in an episode doesn't mean they're not amazing, too. And that sometimes life-changing events can happen when you least expect them.

Congratulations, Davies family! Your winning attitude makes you a true 2.0 Family, and I'm glad the experience had such a positive outcome for you.

Liza,

Thank you for visiting our home last week in your quest for the next My Home 2.0 family! It was such a unique experience that no matter what happens, we will always be grateful for the opportunity to participate.

I just wanted to update you, first on the most important event in our lives since you were here last Wednesday AJ won for Student Council Secretary! Yea! They just made the announcement this morning, and Ed and I were sitting in the parking lot like dorks, listening to the election results.

Also, your visit prompted Ed to agree with me on the house that I have been wanting to put in an offer on, so we are hoping to get a home inspection done soon, then maybe buy the house that I knew all along was perfect for us. I don't know why it takes some outside force to prompt him to agree with me, but I've learned to give him his time to come around. As long as he ultimately agrees with me.

Thanks again for visiting us! It was something we will never forget! I hope to see you at our block party one day!

Thanks and Peace,
Patty Davies

I emailed Patty back and told her I knew exactly what she was talking about with the "outside force" -- I bought my first home last year as well, and if I hadn't had a couple of very good friends nudging (okay, shoving) me along, I'd probably still be in my crummy old apartment.

Patty responded:

Jim,

Thanks for your email! I just got home from a volunteer shift at the fire station, my youngest son is crawling around the house, meowing like a cat, and AJ is feverishly making plans with friends to go to the girls' volleyball game tonight.I don't even want to know why he wants to go! I'm pretty sure it's not the sport. Whatever the case, your email just seemed to fit in this moment.

I'd love to be a part of the dialogue and the blog! In the carnival that is this life, there's always something interesting to say or a good idea to share. Please let me know what you need.

I am attaching the only photo that I took from the casting experience. I think it's a funny picture because it is of my youngest son, who fell asleep nearly standing up during the interview.

On a final note, I am glad thatI fell in love with the house that I want to buy right away because I am a terrible decision-maker and could never have more than one or two houses to pick from! I can understand that it would be difficult to choose with too many in your mind. They probably all started to blend together after a while! But I guess once you buy a house, it's kind of hard to think of yourself as a carefree kid anymore!

Thanks for the email!

Peace,
Patty Davies
